Overview
Over all Pugs are known for their charming, kind, and even keeled temperaments….that being said they can also be extraordinarily stubborn. Every single dog is it’s own individual and certain  aspects of their personalities will surely shine through. That being said each breed, including pugs, have specific general attributes that also tend to show themselves.
For example the Pug tends to be a lovable, stubborn breed filled with tons of
personality.  Through many centuries the pug has been bred with
high esteem, even valued to the point of royalty. Pugs were
even dressed up in clothing (mostly ruffled shirts and
pantaloons) to sit at the front of horse-drawn
carriages. They were put on display and
revered by many. Statues were built
and artists spent time
painting portraits
of pugs.

Stubbornness
So what will a pug do? Well it is not uncommon for a pug to go butt to floor and refuse your requests to go outside. They’ll make you work for it. If you two are cuddling in bed
and you need to get up to use the bathroom…well you may have to just roll your
groaning buddy off of you.If you are the type of owner who likes a dog
with personality, and you enjoy a little of amusement then
you’ll probably get along very
well with your little pug.

Training
Pugs are no easier or harder to train than any other dog breed, and most do extremely well with learning new tricks, obeying commands, and house training. It is important to remember that you can not expect to train any dog, no matter what breed, within
a day or even a week. The biggest benefit of training a pug in comparison to
other dog breeds is their desire to please their human. They are also
easily motivated by some tasty dog biscuits.

Begging
The one negative quirk about pugs is that they sometimes suffer from separation anxiety. This is due to their Clingy and even keeled personality. This means that they may
have a  hard time staying home alone when no one else is around.
An intelligent pug dog who can beg with an adept ability.
Pug's are extremely intelligent beggars. They
will use their huge brown eyes to bait you
into giving them food, don't fall for it!

Forcing them into a small isolated area such as a kennel may only enhance their anxieties. You may want to consider adding toys, a bowl, a bathroom pad, and other comforting objects to their environment while you’re away. Due to the Pug breeds being clingy
they tend to be  beggars. The owner should NOT give into their pug when they
are a pup….this will only add to their begging in the future. Setting
guidelines and rules, especially for food, will help guide your
pug.

Around Other Dog
Pugs are generally happy being around other dogs. Their laid back, even keeled, fun personality fits well with other dogs. The only setback would be their excitement
getting them in trouble with bigger dogs. They may see a situation and charge
happily ahead without realizing the other dog is of a more serious breed. It is
also very rare for the pug breed to be overly dominant over other dogs. Their
curiosity might take hold and drag them into a bad situation involving
another, larger, more dominant dog. Pugs are definitely not shy; it is
more of a matter of them being overly trusting and friendly.

Pugs Around People
Pugs tend to get along with almost everybody, including children of all ages. If you have a crowded household filled with tons of outgoing and rowdy kids you may want to set up an area in advance for your pug to fall back to. This will provide them with a break before they’re ready to be their friendly selves again. A doggy bed or a pillow and some
blankets in a quiet corner would work well. They will want a place to relax, but
they will also want to be able to see their human friends. It won’t be long
before they scamper back over ready to play again.

Personality Overview
Puppies will be more independent, exploring to find out the answer to "what is this?" although usually keeping his owner within eye sight. It is normal for Pug puppies
to scamper around, sliding on floors and sniffing at just about everything.
It is also normal for pups to mouth objects, since that is one of their main
methods of exploration and learning. For this reason, homes should
be periodically "puppy proofed", removing any and all small
objects off the floor and placed out of reach. An adult
wilbe more relaxed. You should encourage them
to stay healthy through daily walks. Don't
push too hard though, the Pug
 breed is sensitive.

Sensitivity
This breed is sensitive to his environment and to those around him. They will tend to shiver,
or be uncomfortably hot. Even when you fix their physical environment they are still vulnerable to their emotional environment. Pugs do best in an optimistic and happy environment. Pugs  are also very sensitive to negative tones and words. You
should treat your pug with  positive words and tones. Pugs should be
rewarded for good behavior, not punished for misdeeds. Without tons
of non-judgmental love, this breed can become emotionally
distraught. While it is recommended to speak in a
confident, firm voice when training, be sure to
 show enthusiasm for things done
right and respectful tones
and words for tricks
done correctly.
